The Open Report, Week 4: Money, Money, Money

The Open begins in 8 days. Register here.

We are just over one week away from the start of the 2025 CrossFit Open and less than two weeks to the submission deadline for 25.1, on Monday, March 3.

  • That’s the date when we will have a complete picture of the total registrations for the 2025 Open.

We are now over a month into the reporting I share each day on Instagram (@known_knowable), which is a daily check-in on the CrossFit Open from four different angles:

  1. Counting up from Day 0 to the final day of the registration period.

  2. Counting down from the first day of the registration period to the final day.

  3. Prize purse funding.

  4. Total registration by Competitive Region.

Last week, we focused on Counting Up and Counting down. Today, we’ll focus on prize purse funding.

The Prize Purse

The 2025 CrossFit Games rulebook revealed a significant change to the way the prize purse works for all parts of the season.

  • “Starting this year, athlete payouts across multiple stages/divisions will increase with the number of Open registrations,” the CrossFit announcement read.

In the same announcement, CrossFit added a brand new prize available to affiliate owners for the affiliates with the most registrations in each region and for affiliates with the top-performing teams in each region.

  • For affiliates, these prizes would be paid out in $2,500 Rogue Fitness gift cards. This is an amazing way for these affiliates to buy some new gear from a top sponsor.

From the weekly Open winners to the Fittest on Earth in each of the adaptive divisions, the payouts are now directly dependent upon 2025 Open registration, as broken down by percentage.

  • This is different from previous years, which were provided in part or in whole by sponsors like Under Armor, Reebok, NOBULL, GORUCK, and Northern Spirit.

Still Hesitant to Automate Client Leads? Time to Rethink Your Strategy

Tanya Moorehead admits she was hesitant to automate her communication with gym member leads. She wasn’t sure how a lead could be properly nurtured in a genuine way through generic, automated messages.

  • “My big thing is being extremely authentic and being who we are…and it did seem like it might be inauthentic, so I wasn’t sure how automated communication could sound authentic,” Moorehead, the owner of Transcend Training in Richmond, KY, said.

At the time, though, she was enrolled in ProFit’s Business Accelerator Coaching program, which is designed to help small gyms become more profitable. She had decided to trust their processes.

  • One of their processes involved using their “Client Lifecycle Automation” (CLA) to generate and nurture leads through the sales funnel with automation.

So Moorehead decided to give the CLA a chance, and what happened next surprised her.

Leads started to flow in, and she was able to turn many of them into high-paying clients. More specifically, in the last year-and-a-half, Moorehead, who charges $280 a month for small group training, has more than doubled her client base, and she credits a lot of this to the CLA’s automation.

  • "The reason I have had the most growth is [ProFit] educating me on automation and marketing. I was doing none of that before I met them,” she said.

Organización de Amigos Expands, Brings Fitness to More At-Risk Youth in Oregon Schools

Jessica Dudley created Organización de Amigos in 2023 as an after-school program in Oregon serving Title I school students.

Dudley came up with the idea when she realized that students with limited means and those struggling with academics would benefit from CrossFit the most. That said, most of them wouldn’t be able to get to the box every day.

So, she decided to bring the program to them.

Since 2023, Organización de Amigos has grown tremendously with the help of their greater CrossFit community.

Some Updates

“Over the past year, Organización de Amigos has experienced tremendous growth and impact,” Dudley told Morning Chalk Up in a recent interview.

  • “We’ve expanded our CrossFit after-school programs to a total of three schools, serving 75 students — up from two schools and 50 students last year.”

With a coaching staff now consisting of four — Dudley as well as coaches Lexi, James, and Jesus — they have integrated CrossFit into the PE curriculum at one of their partner schools, which expands their reach to over 200 students.

They also added a mentorship program, “which fosters leadership, resilience, and personal growth,” Dudley explains.

They’ve incorporated student events, which bring together students across participating schools, while parents play an active role via planning committees. This ensures that they are directly involved in the organization and execution of the events.
