Semifinals Spotlight: Europe’s Rising Star, Colin Bosshard, Eyes CrossFit Games

Colin Bosshard might not be a household name in the CrossFit world, especially outside of European circles.

  • However, the two-time Fittest Man in Switzerland heads into Semifinals looking to build on the momentum of the past 12 months and qualify for the CrossFit Games at the end of the weekend.

Remind me: Colin Bosshard made his first appearance as an individual at Semifinals in 2023.

  • He finished in 12th place, one spot below the cutline for the CrossFit Games.

“Since it was my first time at the Semifinals, I didn’t expect at all to qualify for the games,” Bosshard told the Morning Chalk Up in an interview. “I was there to compete and gain experience.”

  • “My biggest takeaway was knowing that I can compete against the best in Europe. My mentality and the way I approached workouts have changed a lot since then. I’m more confident in my abilities,” the youngster concluded.

A Long and Winding Road: How CrossFit Games Qualification Has Changed Since 2007

The 2024 CrossFit Games will mark the 18th year of the sport’s pinnacle event.

In its history, the Games has relocated numerous times and been reformatted, and the workout surprises Dave Castro has for athletes are just too many to count.

Given these, among other, big changes in the sport over the last 18 years, we think it’s a good time to look back at how the Games qualification process started, changed, and developed, and how we ended up where we are today.

Current state of affairs: The road to the 2024 CrossFit Games is through the CrossFit Open, Quarterfinals, and Semifinals stages.

The Games are being held in Fort Worth, Texas, which is a major change from years past.

Separately, the Games is also no longer hosting the final leg of competition for Age Group, Teen, and Adaptive athletes.

  • We’re currently in the middle of the season as athletes who qualified for Semifinals are gearing up for their first in-person competition of the Games season.

  • The Games are being held at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas from August 8–11.

  • Age Groups, Teens, and Adaptive athletes now each have their own events being held across the country. A first in the Games' history and a change that could give these communities more attention than they’ve had in the past.
