Good morning and welcome to the Morning Chalk Up.

QUOTE OF THE DAY
The beer garden is flowing, and the BBQ is going. It’s just like a massive weekend event at a local gym, but expanded into ten thousand people.”

Will Tia-Clair Toomey-Orr Really Retire After Torian Pro?
She is undoubtedly the greatest CrossFit athlete of all time, but Tia-Clair Toomey-Orr’s plan for the season remains uncertain.
The biggest question of all: Will she retire or won’t she after this weekend’s Torian Pro in Brisbane, Australia?
Remind Me
After winning her seventh CrossFit Games title last summer, Toomey-Orr has become heavily involved in HYROX.
She set a world record in the Pro Women’s Doubles division at the HYROX Houston race in March and is scheduled to compete in the HYROX World Championship in June.
Toomey-Orr has not been entirely clear about her CrossFit competition plans. She did not join the World Fitness Project (WFP) or participate in the In-Affiliate Semifinals. However, she did compete in the Open, finishing 144th in the world.
This means she is eligible for this summer’s CrossFit Games in Albany, NY, provided she qualifies through the Torian Pro In-Person Qualifying Event (IPQE) this weekend.

Sweat Smarter — How to Adjust Your Nutrition When the Heat Hits
As the temperature rises, so do the demands on your body.
Training in hot weather is not only more challenging but also riskier, more fatiguing, and physiologically different from cooler conditions. If your nutrition doesn’t adapt to the climate, your performance can suffer, and recovery may be delayed.
Training in hot weather introduces new challenges: Increased sweat loss, a greater risk of dehydration, altered appetite, and higher carbohydrate oxidation.
Athletes often underestimate just how much the heat taxes their systems — until it manifests as sluggish workouts, dizziness, poor recovery, or even heat illness.
In this article, we’ll explore how to adjust your nutrition and hydration strategies for optimal performance and recovery in hot weather.
You’ll learn how to fuel smarter, hydrate better, and support your body’s thermoregulation while keeping balance and healthy habits in mind.

Australia's Famed Torian Pro Celebrates 10 Years
When it comes to CrossFit competitions, the Torian Pro is certainly doing something right.
The venerable fitness event has hosted the top athletes from Australia and New Zealand since 2015, and it celebrates its 10th annual outing from May 30 to June 1 at the Pat Rafter Arena in Brisbane, Australia. When the dust settles on the action down under, the top two men and women will earn invitations to the 2025 CrossFit Games in Albany, NY.
Why This Matters
Anyone who has hosted a CrossFit competition or a local throwdown can attest to the immense amount of work involved, not to mention the challenges of maintaining financial viability.
This is a concern that even CrossFit founder Greg Glassman was outspoken about.
“It’s extremely expensive. Look at the Brazil [Regionals] event,” Glassman said back in 2018. “We’re at the venue where the Olympics were held. It cost me over a million dollars, and what comes out of it is two people go to the Games.”
Similarly, in 2022, Atlas Games Semifinal co-owner and director Alexis Leblanc-Bazinet told the Morning Chalk Up that he found it difficult to break even, much less turn a Semifinal event into a profitable business.
“I took most of the (financial) hit myself,” he said, adding that he spent two years volunteering countless hours of his time to keep the event alive.
Ultimately, a 10-year-old competition like the Torian Pro holds great significance in our sport and continues to thrive.
