“Best decision for my health”: Tia-Clair Toomey-Orr Explains HYROX World Championships Withdrawal

On June 14, Tia-Clair Toomey-Orr withdrew from the HYROX World Championships Pro Doubles Elite 15 race due to health concerns raised by her partner Joanna Wietrzyk.

  • Toomey-Orr further explained her decision in a new video posted on her YouTube channel Friday.

Remind me: Toomey-Orr and Wietrzyk were slated to do well in the Elite 15 Pro Doubles race after winning the Pro Women’s Doubles race in Houston and setting a new world record

Toomey-Orr also qualified for the World Championships with her Mixed Doubles partner, James Newbury.

In the video, Toomey-Orr says that she learned the Worlds’ schedule had changed and that she’d have to compete in both races on the same day. Though not ideal, she still planned to uphold her commitments.

  • “Those were the cards that I was dealt, and I made commitments to two partners prior to that, so I wasn’t going to jeopardize that,” Toomey-Orr said.

But after traveling to Australia and returning to the U.S. before Worlds, Toomey-Orr started feeling sick in the week leading up to the big races. She tapered her training, forced herself to eat despite having no appetite, and kept away from her training partners.

Kick Up With Confidence – Top 3 Drills for Handstand Walks

There is a common misconception about how we approach gymnastics training compared to weightlifting.

Because gymnastics skills are bodyweight-based, we are constantly practicing with our “1-rep max” loading while trying to improve our skills.

In weightlifting, we practice breaking down positions and deloading the barbell so that we can eventually hit a higher 1-rep max.

You feel me?

Today, let’s consider handstand walking.

  • Are you wondering why you still can’t walk more than five feet on your hands after two years of kicking up and trying?

More than likely, it’s because you aren’t sure how to break down and train the positions you need for advanced gymnastics skills.

  • Without learning to strip the skill down to its basics – like we do in the Burgener warm-up to build muscle memory in weightlifting – we will likely not see significant progress over time.

Meet the 17 Rookies Ready to Shake Up the CrossFit Games

Credit: Marc Costa

In just over a month, 30 men and 30 women will walk into the MVP Arena in Albany, New York, for the season's final test: the 2025 CrossFit Games.

  • Of those 60 individuals, 17 will be competing on the biggest stage in the sport for the first time.

With ten fewer roster spots, this has been one of the toughest years to qualify. However, with some top-level athletes injured, retired, or sitting out the season, the many qualifying events have opened doors for new faces.

Still, the percentage of rookies remains consistent with previous years. Of the 60 athletes on the 2025 Individual roster, 28.33% are first-timers, compared to 28.75% last year.

Let's get to know them.
