The Race to Copenhagen – World Fitness Project Challenger Athletes Fight for Their Season

As the dust settles on the 2025 CrossFit Games, many elite athletes will soon set their sights on the World Fitness Project Tour Stop II.

The WFP Tour Stop II Challenger Qualifier video reviews concluded in July, and invitation emails have been sent to inboxes worldwide, offering athletes the opportunity to compete in Mesa, AZ, from August 29 to 31, 2025.

The unique format of the WFP allows us to follow three races simultaneously.

  • The race for the title of WFP Champion.

  • The race for one of the 20 Pro Cards for the 2026 season.

  • The race to make the finals in Copenhagen. The WFP-signed athletes earn an automatic berth to the finals, but only the top-10 point-earning Challengers (11 on the women’s side) on the season will join them.

Today we’re focusing on the latter, and in each division, we’ll break down which Challenger athletes are well-positioned and which have some work left to do to earn one of the 10 available roster spots to throw down in Copenhagen, where the points are doubled.

How to Build Real Career Paths for CrossFit Coaches

Credit: @besthouroftheirday / Instagram

Every affiliate owner eventually faces a critical turning point: you can't be everywhere at once, yet getting off the floor seems impossible without sacrificing the quality of your service.

  • This challenge often stems from a deeper issue — the lack of clear career pathways for coaches.

The Hidden Challenge Behind Coach Turnover

When I sat down with Alec Corley, owner of South Hall CrossFit and a 10-year affiliate veteran, he identified the lack of a viable career path for his coaches as his biggest challenge.

While he has five coaches on staff, including two potentially full-time, he's still struggling with the cycle of constantly developing new coaches only to lose them months or years later.

  • This revolving door isn't just frustrating — it's draining your time, energy, and resources as an owner.

Built on Belief: The Story Behind CrossFit Green Leaf

When the owners of CrossFit Bullseye decided to close their doors last June, the gym’s community refused to be broken up.

So several of the gym’s members convinced the gym’s manager and coach, Sasha Jones, to open another affiliate.

  • “People were like, ‘You can’t abandon us. Why don’t you just open a gym?’ And I was like, ‘No, that’s crazy,’” said Jones, who holds a Ph.D. and works full-time as a Scientific Apparatus Engineering Technician at the University of Texas at Arlington.

The members were serious, though, and they gathered the money to help her start a new gym.

  • Things moved quickly, and Jones opened CrossFit Green Leaf’s doors in August 2024, the same weekend the 2024 CrossFit Games kicked off just 21 miles away in Fort Worth.

That’s when things got a bit dark for Jones and her community, as, during their gym’s grand opening, they learned about Lazar Đukić’s tragic death during Event 1 at the CrossFit Games.

  • Read on to learn how Sasha Jones and her community navigated their tumultuous first year.
