QUOTE OF THE DAY
“People start out wanting to get a little bit healthier, lose a few pounds, or get a bit stronger, but if you’re not paying attention to who you’re becoming along the training journey, you’re missing the value.” - Kirby Martin, owner of Crossfit Elmira in Elmira, ON on the real value of joining a CrossFit gym (learn about his story tomorrow!)

The 2025 CrossFit Games Season – Rumor Round-Up, Recent History, and a Theory for What’s Next
As we approach the end of the year, rumors have been circulating about what the 2025 CrossFit Games season will hold, both for everyday athletes and elites.
Here’s what we’ve heard.
The 2025 CrossFit season will have a qualification stage beginning with the Open and:
May or may not include Quarterfinals
May or may not have an in-person Semifinals stage;
May or may not have in-person Semifinals mixed with online Semifinals;
May or may not include direct qualification from the Open
The 2024 CrossFit season structure was announced on November 8, 2023.
That announcement included the expansion of the Quarterfinals qualifying field from the top 10 percent of Open participants to the top 25 percent, along with the Semifinals dates and locations.
That date has passed now, and details of the 2025 season remain unknown. We may not hear anything official until we know the outcome of the investigation into the tragic death of Lazar Ðukić at the CrossFit Games.
Recent CrossFit Games Season Structures – A History
For the last four seasons (2021-2024), the CrossFit Games season has looked roughly the same:
Open (online; 3 weeks, 3-4 workouts)
Quarterfinals (online; 1 extended weekend, 4-5 workouts)
Semifinals (in-person;’ 1 extended weekend per region, 6-7 workouts)
CrossFit Games (in-person; 1 week, 12-15 workouts)
That’s true with a few exceptions, and those exceptions give way to some important details about CrossFit’s online qualifying process. But first, let’s look back one more year to 2020.

By the Numbers: Seven Seasoned Veterans at the Rogue Invitational
At the Rogue Invitational this year, we saw several seasoned vets put their fitness on display.
Seven athletes who took the competition field have at least nine individual appearances at the CrossFit Games.
These two women and five men also combine for 30 appearances at the Rogue Invitational in its six-year history.
The longevity is as impressive as the accolades.
All of these beloved athletes are closer to the end of their careers than the beginning, yet they still bring fireworks to any event they enter.
Let’s look at their recent performances at the Rogue Invitational and see what that might tell us about their prospects for the 2025 season and beyond.
Brooke Wells (Age 29)
Nine-time Games competitor and three-time Rogue Invitational competitor.
Wells is the youngest athlete in the group and the only one still in her twenties. After missing qualifying for the Games in 2023, she is back to competing at the high level we’ve been accustomed to seeing.
She finished fifth at Rogue, her career-best result out of three appearances. She thrived in Event 3, “Braveheart,” where she squatted and wall-walked her way to a second-place finish.
CROSSFIT GAMES — PFAA
Professional Fitness Athletes’ Association Announces Newly-Elected Athlete Board
After a vote that ended Sunday evening, the Professional Fitness Athletes’ Association (PFAA) announced its new Athlete Board.
Here are the six athletes representing various regions of the world:
Pat Vellner, Canada, nine-time CrossFit Games athlete
Danielle Brandon, United States, six-time Games athlete
Victoria Campos, Brazil, three-time Games athlete
Jelle Hoste, Belgium, two-time Games athlete
Jake Douglas, Australia, 2023 Games athlete
Christina Livaditakis, Zimbabwe, four-time Semifinal athlete
What About Fikowski?
The recently retired Brent Fikowski is no longer eligible to be on the Athlete Board, as he’s no longer competing. However, he was elected by the board to serve as the PFAA President and is committed to pushing the sport to where the athletes want it to go.
The nine-time Games competitor has been involved with the PFAA from the start. In fact, Fikowski helped get the PFAA up and running in 2020 amid a dramatic ownership change at CrossFit Inc.
One of Fikowski and the PFAA’s main goals is to professionalize the sport, while other priorities have always been about athlete safety and competitive fairness.
