2024 CrossFit Games Weekend Recap

It’s already being called the “Crossfit Games That Weren’t,” and there will be a lot of deep reflection and introspection for the entire community in the coming days and weeks. The Fittest earned their titles on Sunday as crowds cheered them on, all looking for solace in each other’s presence.

  • The Morning Chalk Up will continue to cover the major events from the 2024 CrossFit Games, both on and off the competition floor, in the coming days and weeks. Please stay tuned.

Reactions from Sunday:

After securing the 2024 Affiliate Cup title, Raw Iron CrossFit Mayhem Thunder team captain, Kara Saunders, an 11-time Games veteran and first-time Games champion, said:

  • “I’ve spent most of today trying to give myself space and understand that as humans, we can feel a few things at the same time. I’ve given myself permission to both grieve and think about someone that deserves every single thought…I can feel Lazar here today,” she said.

  • “It’s taken me 13 years and 11 CrossFit Games to get here. I found myself in this sport, from a young woman to a mama now. And it turns out, in order to be a winner, I needed my people around me. I wasn’t supposed to do it on my own,” Saunders concluded.

After winning her seventh CrossFit Games title, Tia-Clair Toomey-Orr addressed what the experience had been for her and her fellow competitors:

  • “I don’t think there are words to explain how hard it really has been for some many different people, in so many different ways…I know Lazar is looking down on us and will be with us forever…he was such a special person.

One big number:

  • 21 — The number of athletes choosing not to continue competing through the weekend, including 13 individuals and two teams.

Tia-Clair Toomey-Orr Wins the 2024 CrossFit Games, Her 7th Overall

Sports are unpredictable.

Except when it comes to Tia-Clair Toomey-Orr.

She wins. Every single time.

And on Sunday, after a long, emotional weekend, 30-year-old Toomey-Orr did it once again, en route to becoming the seven-time CrossFit Games champion, a feat no man or woman has ever achieved before her.

  • “I think this is definitely the best one yet. Ever,” Toomey-Orr said in a post-event interview. “I have always had a really strong support network, but this year we have really had to lean on my family to make sure that [my daughter] Willow had everything that she needed throughout the season…I have no regrets.”

The details: Toomey-Orr, who sat out last season because she was pregnant and gave birth to Willow last May, logged six event wins and two other top-five performances in what can only be considered a dominant performance from start to finish in Fort Worth, TX.

Toomey-Orr never had a finish outside of the top 10, her lowest placing being seventh on both “Firestorm” and “Push Pull 2.0.

James Sprague Wins the 2024 CrossFit Games

James Sprague is the Fittest Man on Earth.

The final day of the 2024 CrossFit Games in Fort Worth, TX, saw the second-year Games athlete log consistent performances over the tremendously difficult weekend — both physically and emotionally — to claim the throne.

There were 200 points up for grabs in the final two events on Sunday and 22-year-old Sprague took full advantage.

He knew what he needed to do to beat out Games veteran Brent Fikowski who carried a 41-point lead with eight events in the rearview.

The youngster went full send to end the weekend.

  • “To just be able to come out here and prove whatever hits me mentally, physically, I know that my spiritual strength is going to carry me through any challenge,” Sprague said during his post-event interview.
