Calm, Collected, Champion: Dylan Scott's First HYROX World Title

A veteran in the field, toeing the line at his sixth World Championships, elite HYROX competitor Dylan Scott was relaxed. Experience had led him to a focused yet easygoing mindset - one he said is the best place to be for a race. Despite all the time he had spent at this level, competing against the sport's greats, including past champions, Scott had yet to earn a title.

Race Night

“Walking into Thursday night, I was just very much in the place of like, ‘come in, execute your race plan. Let's see where it puts you,’” Scott told the Morning Chalk Up. “So I was very calm, to be honest,” he continued.

Scott didn’t lead at the start of the race. Instead, previous champions Tim Wenisch, Hunter McIntyre, and Alex Roncevic surged to the front of the pack and stayed there.

But Scott expected that, and it did not shake him.

  • “I've been behind a lot of times and worked my way back into races before. And I'm totally comfortable doing that because I'm like, ‘this is 55 minutes long. If I'm behind by a minute, at minute 22, well, the first 22 minutes of the race aren't really my forte anyway. I still have 33 minutes to reverse this because it's not like a running race,” Scott said.

"Mentally, I'm the Strongest I Have Ever Been:” Ricky Garard Has His Sights Set to Win the CrossFit Games

We’re two weeks away from the 20th CrossFit Games in San Jose, CA, and the men’s podium is genuinely up for grabs.

While there might not be a clear favorite, one name that has to be considered among the top podium threats is Australia’s Ricky Garard.

The 32-year-old has been on the podium twice before, including last season, and he won the Torian Pro Semifinal in May, finishing outside the top five only once.

What makes Garard’s performance at the Torian Pro so impressive, however, is that he managed to win the competition despite a nagging back injury and getting sick.

  • “It wasn’t the smoothest ride to the top. I managed the back injury, stayed OK, and got through the first day with the heavy snatch. That was the one I was the most worried about. Once I got through that, I was like, “‘We’re good, smooth sailing now,’” Garard said.

Born Primitive Releases “Diverse and Versatile” Running Shoe

As HYROX has exploded in the last couple of years, so has the shoe market, which has seen a surge in both new running shoes and hybrid shoes designed specifically for HYROX.

Born Primitive is the latest shoe and apparel company to enter the space; they released their first running shoe, the Pursuit 1, in May.

Remind me: Founded by Bear and Mallory Handlon in 2014, Born Primitive had its roots in CrossFit, but today it’s also prominent in the hiking, hunting, and fishing worlds.

  • Their first product was a pair of compression shorts, followed by T-shirts and tank tops, and eventually full training and lifestyle apparel lines.

In 2023, Born Primitive released their first shoe, the Savage 1 training shoe. Then came the Savage 1 classic shoe, and more recently, a high-top version of the Savage 1.
