2026 CrossFit Games Saturday, Lay of the Land

We are just over halfway through the competition for the individuals and teams, and when the dust settled on Friday, James Sprague, Aimee Cringle, and CrossFit Mayhem held the top leaderboard spots, but a whole gang of athletes and teams are all hot on their heels.
The festivities kicked off at the SAP Center with an opening ceremony devoted to the history and growth of CrossFit and the CrossFit Games.
Former champs ranging from OGs like James “OPT” Fitzgerald, Jolie Gentry, and Kristan Clever, to more recent winners like Jayson Hopper and James Sprague were on the competition floor to be honored. Of course, two of the G.O.A.T.s, Mat Fraser and Tia-Clair Toomey-Orr, were on hand as well.
Then, the 2026 Demo Team rolled the hopper out to the center of the floor; Greg Glassman was announced as a special guest and turned the handle, mixing the bright blue and red balls inside.
Annie Sakamoto and her daughter (who pulled the original movements back in 2007) selected “toes-to-bar” and “snatch” as the two movements to be programmed.
Then came the twist: Castro called on eight-time champion Tia-Clair Toomey-Orr, five-time champion Mat Fraser and 2008 champion Jason Khalipa and announced that each of them would design a workout with those two movements, and then the community would vote on which one they wanted to become the final event of the day, although we wouldn't know whose workout we were selecting.
After the voting took place throughout the day, it was Toomey-Orr’s workout that was selected:
3 rounds for time:
21 toes-to-bar
7 unbroken power snatches (95/65 pounds)
7 unbroken hang snatches
7 unbroken squat snatches
One big number:
305 — The total number of athletes competing across all divisions of the individual, team, masters, teen, and adaptive divisions.

Ready For a Free Upgrade from INOV8?
Ahead of today’s Games in San Jose, INOV8 is doing something different. Instead of a traditional vendor booth, they're opening The NaturalFit™ Service Center at The Playground by HiitSchool, a space inspired by the building's past life as an auto service center. The idea: just like you'd bring your car in for a performance service, they're inviting fans and athletes alike to bring their feet in for one.
Visitors can get a complimentary Natural Fit Service: a proper fitting into INOV8 shoes built with a foot-shaped fit and wide toe box, giving your toes room to spread and move naturally. No pitch. They just want you to feel the difference for yourself, then put it to the test in the open gym before a day of watching the world's fittest athletes compete.

Memorable Moments from Friday at the CrossFit Games
Day 2 of the 20th CrossFit Games offered not only a whole lot of close finishes and leaderboard shuffling, but also a healthy dose of never-before-seen movements at the CrossFit Games and a big splash of nostalgia.
Here are five of our favorite moments:
The Hopper Moment
You could feel the anticipation as the demo team carried the refurbished hopper onto the competition floor on Friday morning, marking one of the day's most feel-good and nostalgic moments.
As someone who has been doing CrossFit since 2008, being there in person at the SAP Center, seeing the hopper at the 20th Games, can only be described as a truly special moment, one where it felt impossible not to feel intense gratitude for the CrossFit Games and, ultimately, for how this community has changed the face of fitness.

5 Brands Crushing It in Vendor Village at the 2026 CrossFit Games
From dead-hang holds and pull-up challenges to CrossFit Games-branded sunglasses, protein bars with creatine, clean energy drinks without an aftertaste, and some of the nicest CrossFit apparel and shoes you can get your hands on, the vendor village at the SAP Center this weekend will make you giddy like a 5-year-old on Christmas morning if you’re a CrossFit enthusiast.
Many of the well-known mainstay brands showed up with a big presence — Rogue, Mayhem, R.A.D, Yeti, Velites — but there are plenty of emerging companies with a lot to offer those on hand at the 20th CrossFit Games in San Jose, CA.
Speaking of Velites, we need to say it: Their apparel is some of the softest, highest-quality clothing we’ve come across in this space, and it’s well worth the price point. But if you’re on site this weekend, don’t wait too long; clothes are flying off the racks faster than staff can replace them.
Five Other Brands We’re Loving
PBfit: Known for their peanut butter powder — which can be tossed into smoothies or cookies — PBfit offers a wheel set up in the vendor village for shoppers to spin and win free products. The powder is lower in fat and higher in protein than traditional peanut butter.
