Brazil Brings the Heat at Copa Sur: 5 Key Takeaways
The second In-Person Qualifying Event of the 2025 season took place in Rio de Janeiro over the Easter weekend, adding four more individuals to the roster for the 2025 CrossFit Games.
For those keeping track,13 percent of the complete 2025 CrossFit Games roster is now set.
Here are a few takeaways from the event:
Two Rookies and Two Vets Are Headed to Albany
Kalyan Souza and María Quintero are returning to the Games, while Henrique Moreira and Luiza Marques will make their first appearances.
Moreira entered the final elimination-style event with an 85-point lead over Souza and needed nearly all of it to maintain his position after being knocked out early. In the end, he secured first place overall by just nine points.
Souza is making his third consecutive trip after qualifying as a rookie in 2023. He placed 32nd in his rookie year and improved to 23rd last year.
Quintero was the only woman in the field at the Copa Sur with individual Games experience, having qualified as the National Champion of Colombia in 2019. She was eliminated after the second event, finishing 60th out of 129 women.

Eight Weeks Postpartum, Paige Powers Surprised Herself at Mayhem Classic
On February 7, Mayhem athlete and Games veteran Paige Powers gave birth to her daughter, Oaklee Ann Rodgers.
Eight weeks after her birth, on April 5, Powers competed at the Mayhem Classic, the first In-Person Qualifying Event of this season.
The Buttery Bros. — Heber Cannon, Marston Sawyers, and Julian Marquez — spoke with Powers about her return to the competition floor in their behind-the-scenes look at the event.
“I didn’t even realize I’d be in a qualifying position,” she said in the video.
Remind me: The Mayhem Classic Invitational utilized the Rogue Points System to assemble its rosters of 20 men and 20 women; ultimately, two women withdrew, resulting in a final roster of 18.
The Rogue Points System utilizes data from the current season, as well as from the three preceding seasons.
While she was pregnant, the team at CrossFit Mayhem informed Powers that due to the points she had accrued in previous years, there was a chance she might receive a backfill invitation and be able to compete.
Powers was 25th in the Rogue rankings at the time, but several women ahead of her declined their invitations to compete for various reasons.
Powers told Mayhem she'd consider it and let them know after the birth.
