Why Your Gut Might Be the Key to Better Sleep
We usually think of sleep as something to improve with the proper bedtime routine: a dark room, less screen time, and maybe a new pillow.
But science is now pointing to a surprising partner in rest: your gut.
The community of trillions of microbes in your digestive system may play a much bigger role in how well you sleep than you realize.
The Gut–Sleep Connection
Your gut and brain are always communicating through the gut–brain axis. This connection affects mood, stress, immunity, and, according to new research, even your sleep patterns.
A 2024 study published in Sleep found that individuals with more diverse gut microbiomes tend to have better sleep quality and less variation in sleep duration from one night to the next.
Continue reading for the science behind how your gut bacteria talk to your brain — and why it matters for sleep.
COMMUNITY
Run As One – CompTrain Goes the Distance with a 24-Hour Ultramarathon
In September, Ben Bergeron’s CompTrain community took on a challenge that most CrossFit athletes would never consider: 24 hours of running.
The details: Forty CompTrain athletes made the trek to Morristown, TN, in late September to compete in The Dirt Circuit, an ultramarathon.
What makes this ultramarathon especially challenging — and possibly mind-numbing — is that the course is a 2.9-mile loop that runners repeat for 24 hours, either alone or as part of a team.
Most of the CompTrain athletes chose the team version of the event; however, a handful opted for the solo version, which is documented in the new documentary, Run As One.
So, how far did they get?: CompTrain’s top female finisher was Brooklyn Zablocki, who completed 81.2 miles, earning a second-place overall finish.
The top male CompTrain finisher was Bryce Chambers. He ran 100 miles and finished third overall.
Continue reading for how CompTrain athletes found purpose in discomfort — and calm in 24 hours of chaos.
