POWERED BY:

Good morning and welcome to the Morning Chalk Up.

In today’s edition:

  • “Iceland Annie” Thorisdottir announced that she would skip the 2025 CrossFit Open in the Buttery Bros’ new documentary, These Women Changed Fitness Forever. Get the details below.

  • What does it mean to be coachable, and why is it important?

  • Reps Ahead Pro 6 went down at TYR WZA Miami in January. Check out our full recap below.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

“I feel very, very disappointed in how they have handled everything and what happened…how they've handled it going forward is even more so disappointing and devastating. So for moral reasons, I cannot partake in the Open this year, and that will be the first year since 2009, or since the Open started.” - Annie Thorisdottir, two-time CrossFit Games champion, fan favorite, and legend.

Annie Thorisdottir to Skip 2025 CrossFit Season, Cites Disappointing Response to Dukic's Death

For the first time, the “Dottirs” of Iceland (Sara Sigmundsdottir, Annie Thorisdottir, and Katrin Davidsdottir) threw down side by side by side at TYR Wodapalooza in Miami Beach at the end of January.

  • This team represents over 16 years of competitive fitness and multiple CrossFit Games podium finishes, including Davidsdottir and Thorisdottir’s multiple Fittest on Earth titles.

Their performance at TYR Wodapalooza was one that was quite meaningful, as Davidsdottir is technically retired, Sigmundsdottir is battling back from multiple injuries and an auto-immune disorder, and Thorisdottir is returning to competition after the birth of her second child.

Not only are the “Dottirs” decorated in their long careers, but their inspiration and influence over the CrossFit community runs deep and is undeniable.

While in Miami Beach, the women’s weekend was documented by The Buttery Bros — Heber Cannon, Marston Sawyers, and Julian Marquez — who recently released their film of the event, “These Women Changed Fitness Forever.”

  • In it, the Buttery Bros highlighted the “Dottirs” performance while at TYR WZA but gave the women a platform to share intimate feelings and opinions.

One big thing: During the episode, the three shared their current mindset regarding CrossFit HQ and its handling of Lazar Ðukić’s death and its aftermath. They also spoke about their participation in the 2025 CrossFit Games season.

Are You Coachable? Here's Why It Matters

Coachability is one of the most important traits we look for and try to encourage in our athletes.

It's the difference between someone who will thrive and grow under our guidance and someone who will stay stuck in their comfort zone.

  • So, what exactly is coachability?

It's the willingness to accept and apply feedback, even when it's challenging. It's the mindset that says, "I'm excited to learn and improve," rather than "I'm fine just the way I am."

The Growth Mindset Advantage

Psychologist Carol Dweck talks about two types of mindsets: fixed and growth.

People with a fixed mindset see their abilities as static traits. Giving them feedback makes them feel like you're challenging their worth.

  • On the other hand, those with a growth mindset are eager for feedback. They know their effort and willingness to learn will help them reach their full potential.

While these mindsets often manifest in various aspects of life, they can be very context-specific.

For example, you might have a growth mindset in the gym but a fixed mindset in your relationships.

The key is to be aware of where you are and have the courage to cultivate a hunger for growth in all areas of life.
