2026 CrossFit Games Day 2 Lay of the Land

After a long, high-volume first competition day that saw athletes shuttling back and forth between the Ranch and Morgan Hill Sports Complex, the individuals rest today, while the teams get their first look at the competition floor.
The day started at Morgan Hill Sports Complex under clear blue skies, as first the women and then the men took on “The 2007 Hopper.” Then they drove by bus to Aromas and the birthplace of the Games, the CrossFit Ranch, for the “Ranch 7200.”
After that, it was back to Morgan Hill Sports Complex for “The CrossFit Total” and a grass oval bike race, capped off by the “Swim Standard” at the Morgan Hill pool.
One big number:
3 — The number of event wins that current women’s leader, Aimee Cringle, took home on day 1. Her wins included the trail run, the deadlift, and the grass oval bike race.
What they’re saying:
“Naturally we both stick in our own lanes for the week, right? It’s a pretty selfish week. And you have to focus on yourself to have the goals we have.”
Jay Crouch on what it’s like competing with his fiancée, Maddie Sturt (in his post-event-one-win interview), Jay Crouch said: The Australian power couple (engaged to be married in December) both took the event wins in “The 2007 Hopper.”
“Haley was faster on the uphill, I just let myself go on the downhill…I just let my legs do the thing, I was going too fast for my own good, I think…”
Aimee Cringle on how she held off a famously gritty Haley Adams to win on the “Ranch 7200.”
“When I started this sport I was like 145 pounds, and I couldn’t really lift shit, so…this has been a long time coming, a lot of strength work over and over and over again.”
Colten Mertens during his post-event-win interview following the CrossFit Total, after learning he now holds the record as the strongest CrossFit athlete.

CROSSFIT GAMES
5 Standout Performances on Day 1 at the 2026 CrossFit Games
Day 1 of the 20th CrossFit Games in San Jose, CA, was busy, to say the least. Athletes competed in seven events, arguably the highest-volume Day 1 in CrossFit Games history.
At the end of Day 1, Aimee Cringle leads all women with 458 points, while James Sprague tops the men’s standings with 414, but Dallin Pepper is only one back at 413 heading into the rest day.
Here are five performances from Day 1 that raised the bar.
Aussie Power Couple Wins Event 1
The day began with the first workout that was ever programmed at the Games in 2007: “The Hopper.”
For time:
1,000-meter row
Then, 5 rounds:
25 pull-ups
7 push jerks, 135/95lbs
It was PRVN athletes, training partners, and soon-to-be-married life partners Maddie Sturt and Jay Crouch who stole the show.
Sturt finished in a time of 8:03, seven seconds ahead of Lucy Campbell. She picked up her first-ever event win at the Games. Shortly after that, Crouch dominated Heat 1, putting up a time of 7:11, which was just enough to hang on to the event win over Colten Mertens.
