Welcome Back: Kristin Holte Returns to Competition

After eight years of competing as an individual at the CrossFit Games, Norwegian athlete Kristin Holte announced that she would retire from competitive CrossFit in 2021 after finishing fourth.

  • In the documentary Fittest on Earth: Next Gen, Holte holds her emotions in check until the end of the 2021 CrossFit Games weekend. Later, as she reflects on her career and the memories made, her decision to hang it up is not without sadness over the end of an era.

Since she retired, Holte has gone on to have a child and has solidified her role as a coach and mentor with Kriger Training.

Still, fans missed seeing her create those unforgettable moments, like when she won the “Sprint” event at the 2019 Games that sent so many of her competitors home. Or when she faced off against Annie Thorisdottir at the 2021 Games during “Event 14,” a quick and brutal couplet of deadlifts and free-standing handstand pushups.

In her career as an individual athlete, Holte finished in the top 10 five times out of her eight appearances.

  • Her highest finish came in 2019 when she placed second. Her retirement was bittersweet and, for many fans, felt a bit too soon.

But…. she’s back.

Understanding Weight Gain and Loss – Calories In/Calories Out and Sugar Consumption

Weight gain occurs when you consume more calories than your body uses, regardless of the source.

  • Sugar can contribute to excess calorie intake because sugary foods and beverages often contain a lot of calories with little nutritional value.

However, not all calories are created equal; the types of calories you consume can affect your metabolism, hunger, and cravings.

So, while sugar can be a significant contributor to weight gain, it’s essential to consider overall calorie intake and the nutritional quality of your diet.

How Energy Balance Works – The Basics

Energy balance is a concept that refers to the relationship between the amount of energy (calories) consumed through food and drink and the amount of energy expended through metabolic processes and physical activity.

This balance affects body weight and overall health.

Invictus Opens Fifth Location in Miami, Home to TYR Wodapalooza

The “Sea of Green” has landed in Miami, FL, only a few months ahead of TYR Wodapalooza, one of the most popular CrossFit competitions in the United States.

CrossFit Invictus has just opened Invictus Miami, adding to its already growing list of affiliates across the country.

  • In addition to Miami, Invictus has gyms in San Diego, CA; Boston, MA; Seattle, WA; and Washington, DC.

The details: Invictus is one of the most well-known training camps and affiliates in the country and a breeding ground for elite teams and individual athletes.

In 2023, Invictus won the team competition at the CrossFit Games and stood on the podium in 2022, 2021, 2018, and 2014.

CrossFit fan favorites have come from the Invictus ranks, and many have also gone to train and live in San Diego full-time.

But at its core, the affiliate is still a member-based business looking to expand, Jorge Valdes, co-owner of Invictus and Invictus Miami, told Morning Chalk Up.

  • “Having lived in Miami for over 20 years, I am very excited to expand the Invictus family to include this new location,” Valdes said.
