QUOTE OF THE DAY
“I think this is a turning point in what we’re doing. This massive growth is going to lead to a lot of positive things. Not just for the iF3, but in your countries, and for the sport in general.” - Gretchen Kittelberger, iF3 President.

2024 International Functional Fitness Federation “Super Worlds” World Championships: Recap
The 2024 International Functional Fitness Federation (iF3) World Champions have been crowned in Budapest, Hungary.
The idea behind the event came from iF3 President Gretchen Kittelberger, who wanted a way to honor the Olympics in 2024.
“Thus, the idea of Super Worlds was born,” she said. “Where we could come together in a big, festival-like atmosphere with athletes from all of our divisions, and have this multi-cultural, massive event with an Olympic feel.”
The turnout exceeded her expectations, with more than 800 athletes from more than 30 countries competing in Budapest over three days.
In the Senior (or Open) Division, Colin Bosshard successfully defended his title from 2023, while Mirjam von Rohr won her first world championship after a third-place finish last year.
There were tight races in many of the 29 divisions, and athletes of all ages put on a show for the sold-out crowd.
Remind me: The iF3, as well as the national federations it supports, like the Hungarian Fitness Federation, which hosted the massive event, is a nonprofit organization.
In order to standardize the sport, all iF3 competitions include six tests: endurance, strength, body weight, skill, mixed modal, and power.
While this year’s event had many moving parts, it flowed smoothly, accommodating a sold-out crowd, along with hundreds of athletes, coaches, volunteers, and media.

Master Your Maintenance Phase: Fresh Tips for Staying on Track
A maintenance phase in nutrition is a period in which you aim to maintain your current body weight, rather than focusing on fat loss or muscle gain.
This phase has several benefits for both physical and mental well-being:
Improved Metabolic Health – Prolonged calorie restriction can slow down your metabolism. A maintenance phase allows your body to adapt without further metabolic slowdown.
Enhanced Performance and Recovery – Adequate caloric intake provides fuel for physical activities, improving workout performance and daily energy. Sufficient nutrition, including calories and macronutrients, aids in muscle recovery and repair, reducing fatigue and injury risk.
Supports Muscle Retention – Adequate calories help preserve lean muscle mass, especially if you're strength training. In addition, it's easier to maintain muscle in a neutral energy balance than during prolonged caloric deficits because it actually gives your body a break.
Psychological Relief – You don’t need to meticulously track or restrict food, which can relieve diet fatigue and improve your relationship with food.

Rival Podcasters John Wooley and Sevan Matossian to Go Head-to-Head in 2025 CrossFit Open
John Wooley wasn’t planning on doing the CrossFit Open this year.
Not because he was actively boycotting it but because Wooley is training for a HYROX competition this spring and was focusing on that instead.
But the host of the podcast Constantly Varied Conversations started receiving messages from viewers who he says were “rightfully giving me shit” about his decision to skip the Open as an affiliate owner.
Wooley told the Morning Chalk Up that a few others were falsely accusing him of boycotting the Open and “trying to take a stand against Dave [Castro].”
After that, a self-described “Sevanista” (a fan of Sevan Matossian’s The Sevan Podcast) reached out to Wooley with an intriguing comment.
“Hey, look, you should just do it,” the fan wrote, according to Wooley. “It’s 20 bucks. At a minimum, you’re setting an example for a brand that saves lives.”
Wooley understood that perspective, saying, “Decent people admit when they’re wrong.”
In fact, Wooley said his 80-year-old father is battling bladder cancer right now and wouldn’t have discovered it if he wasn’t doing CrossFit.
So Wooley decided not only to do the Open in 2025 but also challenge Matossian, whose YouTube channel currently has 32.6k subscribers and is one of the most watched in the CrossFit media ecosystem.
“Let’s compare scores,” Wooley posted on Instagram. “If he beats me and ranks higher at the end of three weeks, I’ll donate $500 to the affiliate or charity of his choice. If I win, you donate $500 to CrossFit First, which is the adaptive athlete class at Chagrin Falls CrossFit [Wooley’s affiliate in Ohio].”
