Bruce Edwards Named CrossFit CEO – Exclusive Interview and Open Letter

On Tuesday, nearly two months after former CEO Don Faul resigned, CrossFit announced it had hired Bruce Edwards to lead the company. His first day will be May 4, 2026.

In a post on CrossFit’s website, Edwards said:

  • “CrossFit changed my life three decades ago. It helped me get healthier and introduced me to a community that has played an important role in my life. I’m returning to CrossFit because I believe in where we can go next.”

Edwards’ experience in CrossFit dates back to the late 1990s when he was coached by Greg Glassman as he developed the CrossFit methodology. He went on to open CrossFit Aptos in California in 2015, which he co-owned for five years, and served as CrossFit’s COO from 2013 to 2019.

  • “I’ve seen this community from every angle, and that perspective will guide how I lead. Together, we have the opportunity to build something even stronger and bring the benefits of CrossFit to more people around the world,” he said in the post.

It’s worth noting that during his tenure with CrossFit, Edwards was integral to implementing various changes, including staffing adjustments, e-commerce, and other operational improvements aimed at improving the company’s financial health.

  • It was also during this time that CrossFit experienced record growth across various areas, from total affiliate numbers to training and certifications to participation in the CrossFit Open.

2026 World Fitness Project Tour Stop 1: Preview and Who to Watch

Credit: World Fitness Project

The World Fitness Project (WFP) is just hours away from the start of its second season, with Tour Stop 1 taking place in London, England, this weekend.

As last year, this will be the first of three competitions. The next Tour Stop is scheduled for August 28-30 outside Indianapolis, IN, and the Final will once again take place in Copenhagen, Denmark, December 17-20.

Remind me: Both 2025 champions, Laura Horvath and James Sprague, are returning for this season. Among the men, Sprague is the only athlete who finished in the top five in 2025 and is competing again in 2026. Ricky Garard, Dallin Pepper, Justin Medeiros, and Jeff Adler have all declined their 2026 contracts.

On the women’s side, of the top five finishers in 2025, only Lucy Campbell is not returning. Horvath, Aimee Cringle, Emma Lawson, and Arielle Loewen will all be competing in London.

In an article published a few weeks ago, we laid out both the Pro and Challenger rosters for the upcoming competition.

PROFILE

From Badwater to Santa Monica – Red Bull’s Arda “Cyborg” Saatçi Runs 600 Kilometers in 96 Hours

At first glance, Red Bull’s Arda Saatçi doesn’t look like a distance runner.

  • No, scratch that. He’s not a distance runner; he’s an extreme ultra runner, logging hundreds of kilometers in one go.

But looking at him, one would think he’s a bodybuilder or perhaps a professional CrossFitter. He’s a hybrid athlete – the trending phrase personified.

Known for extreme endurance challenges of all kinds, Saatçi also spends substantial time in the gym training for fitness and can knock out 1,000 (strict) pull-ups in under two hours.

In 2024, he ran from his hometown of Berlin to New York City. (His route took him from Berlin, Germany, to Porto, Portugal. He then flew to Boston, MA, where he finished his run to New York, NY.) Covering approximately 3,000 km, he completed the project in 74 days, logging a marathon, or sometimes two, each day.

  • The following year, he ran the length of Japan from north to south, a distance of about 3,000 km. This took him 43 days, during which he averaged 25-50 miles per day.

On May 5, he’s ready to take on something new: he’ll run 600 kilometers in 96 hours, from Badwater through the Mojave Desert and Los Angeles, ending at the Santa Monica pier. The entire endeavor will be livestreamed on Saatçi’s YouTube channel and on RedBullTV.

A Rough Watch: CrossFit Deserves Better than What the Legends Championship Served

Credit: Victor Freitas

Cringe.

It’s the best way I can describe what kept happening to my face while watching the Legends Championship livestream behind the FloElite paywall last weekend.

Not the athletes themselves: There were plenty of impressive performances, as four of the undoubtedly fittest athletes in the world earned their invites to the 2026 CrossFit Games. But watching the live feed felt like a time warp that sent me back 15 years. Maybe longer.

What I got for $30: A glitchy production that consistently left me staring at a “we’re experiencing technical difficulties” screen, while at other times it was the wheel of death buffering away. And what about watching the event again if you missed it live? Don’t even think about it.

  • When the feed was actually showing fitness, the low-definition quality made it challenging to even see what was going on, failing at sports production 101 – the viewer needs to know who's in the lead.
