CrossFit LLC Officially Seeking New Ownership; Will Hold Affiliate Town Hall With CEO Don Faul Today

CrossFit LLC announced Wednesday that it is officially for sale, just days before the final week of the 2025 CrossFit Open.

The sales process is currently underway, according to an email to affiliate owners acquired by Morning Chalk Up.

Remind me: The current owner of CrossFit LLC is Berkshire Partners, who purchased the company back in 2020.

The sport of CrossFit, especially as a brand, has faced scrutiny since the tragic death of Lazar Ðukić at the 2024 CrossFit Games.

A rumored sale of the company received some attention before the Open began but was not confirmed until now. Today’s announcement fits the timeline laid out in the February rumor.

  • “Our objective is to find the right partner—one with a connection to our community, an appreciation for our affiliate business model, and the passion and vision to lead us into the future,” CrossFit CEO Don Faul said in an email to affiliates.

An affiliate town hall will be held on Thursday, March 13, at 9 a.m. PT / 12 p.m. ET. The email contains registration instructions.

You Just Finished the CrossFit Open, Now What?

After months of intense training and competition, the CrossFit Open is over.

While the Open is a test of fitness, it’s also a valuable opportunity for athletes to gauge their progress and identify areas of improvement.

Whether you’re celebrating a personal best year or strategizing for next year, how you approach your recovery and training next can make all the difference in sustaining long-term progress and avoiding burnout.

Here’s what CrossFit athletes should prioritize once the Open season wraps up: maximize recovery, rejuvenate your body, and set the stage for even better performance.

Take Some Time Off

Most athletes are so eager to get back to work and strive for perfection that they don’t consider their longevity in the sport.

Which is fair — you’re excited!!

However, if you take the purposeful time off now, you hopefully won’t be forced to take time off later due to injury, sickness, or burnout.

  • Even a week off from the gym, followed by a week of bodybuilding and zone two engine work, is a great way to start ramping back into training.

This purposeful time off applies to your nutrition, too! If you track all year round, take the time off now because you’ll be right back to it when you return to the gym.

When your coach or your gym recommends the time off, really take it.

How to Watch CrossFit Open Announcement 25.3

The final week of the 2025 CrossFit Open kicks off with the live announcement of workout 25.3 on Thursday, March 13, on the official CrossFit YouTube channel. And we’ve got all the details you need to know heading into the event.

The details: The final live Open announcement marks the conclusion of the 2025 CrossFit Open and, for many people, the end of their Games season.

For the talented top 1-2%, the In-Affiliate Semifinals, and In-Person Qualifying Events await. For everyone else, the Community Cup is another way to extend the competitive season.

The live announcements started during the 2013 season and grew in size and popularity through 2018. CrossFit elected not to host live Open announcements during the 2019 and 2020 seasons but returned to host them in 2021.

  • The 25.3 announcement will take place on March 14 at CrossFit Spur in Glenmont, NY, not far from the new CrossFit Games home in Albany.

  • The final live announcement will feature a head-to-head-to-head battle between the first-, second-, and fourth-place finishers at the 2024 Games on the men’s side: James Sprague, Dallin Pepper, and Jayson Hopper.
