Rebel Renegade Games and Far East Throwdown – Preview, How to Watch, and Leaderboards

Credit: Scott Freymond

Two of the four In-Person Qualifying Events (IPQE) happening this weekend are in Korea and South Africa.

The Far East Throwdown in Busan, South Korea, and the Rebel Renegade Games in Johannesburg, South Africa, will take place from May 30 to June 1. Each event will send one man and one woman to the CrossFit Games.

Remind me: To qualify for the Games, athletes had to finish in the top one percent of the CrossFit Open and earn one of 30 tickets through the In-Affiliate Semifinals or an IPQE.

  • This stage of the Games season began in April with the Mayhem Classic, and so far, five IPQEs and the online Semifinals have concluded.

The Rebel Renegade Games is a regional event, meaning only athletes from the Africa region (including the United Arab Emirates [UAE] and the Middle East, as designated by the event organizers) are eligible to compete.

There are currently 32 men and 20 women listed on the roster for the Rebel Renegade Games.

  • Watch the Rebel Renegade action here

  • Download the event app here to follow the leaderboard and check out the full weekend schedule.

The Far East Throwdown has no regional limitations and is open to any athlete who has qualified through the Open.

Far East has a larger field, with 40 men and 40 women qualified and registered to compete.

3 Bar Muscle-Up Drills You’re Not Doing (But Definitely Should Be)

Credit: @korihoffmanphotography / Instagram

One concept that many athletes often overlook regarding skill development is that technique and strength drills do not always need to replicate the exact movement.

  • Sprinters don’t just “run” to get faster; they incorporate drills to enhance body awareness, explosiveness, and strength.

For the bar muscle-up, I encourage you to reconsider your training approach, not only to achieve your first one but also to continue improving.

  • If you're looking to enhance your snatch, you shouldn’t merely keep making one-rep max attempts, right? The same principle applies to gymnastics. We don’t simply keep practicing the bar muscle-up to improve at the bar muscle-up.

So what should you do?

First, you need to understand what is necessary to succeed at this skill.

The bar muscle-up requires pulling and pressing strength, body awareness and timing, and core-to-extremity strength. Once you grasp that, we can develop drills that connect our brain to our body so that, when it’s time to perform the skill, our muscle memory will take over.

Why Mat Fraser and Josh Bridges Are Investing in Recovery, and Why You Should Too

Credit: Suji

Being a successful CrossFit athlete requires more than just pull-ups and personal records; you won’t reach the peak of your fitness without focusing on recovery.

Two prominent figures in the CrossFit community, Mat Fraser and Josh Bridges, understand the significance of recovery. With 12 CrossFit Games appearances between them, they have competed at a high level for years, and the secret to their longevity lies in their emphasis on recovery.

One of the tools that both Fraser and Bridges use is Suji, the world’s most versatile recovery device, built around a breakthrough method known as Targeted Compression Training (TCT), which is an innovative and accessible evolution of Blood Flow Restriction (BFR) training.

Muscle health and joint pain are continuous challenges for athletes, and compression training effectively supports this recovery. Suji offers targeted compression training taken to the next level.

  • “Targeted compression training was a staple in my recovery routine after my knee injury,” Fraser says.

Targeted compression training is important for injury recovery; researchers have successfully demonstrated that it is also an effective intervention for conditions associated with age-related muscular loss.
