10 Big Things to Follow Heading Into the 2024 CrossFit Games
Does it feel like yesterday that we were grinding through the CrossFit Open? Does it also feel like we’ve been waiting forever for the CrossFit Games?
Well, the wait is over, and the Games are here!
For the athletes, there is nothing left to do but compete. For the fans, there is nothing left to do but be entertained.
We will be highlighting 10 big things from each day this weekend; including storylines to follow, incredible performances, leaderboard battles, records threatened, and surprises no one saw coming.
Let’s start with 10 big things going into the first day of competition in Fort Worth, TX.
1. This is the first season since the CrossFit Open began (2011) that neither the men’s nor women’s winner is competing at the Games.
Both from Europe, Mirjam Von Rohr and Jonne Koski won the CrossFit Games Open and failed to qualify for the 2024 Games.

Will Fatigue Be a Factor at Friday Night Lights – A Preview and Some Predictions
Last week, Morning Chalk Up managing editor Joe Genetin-Pilawa and I sat down with Chris Hinshaw, founder of Aerobic Capacity, to chat about some of the running-related events already announced for the 2024 CrossFit Games.
“I think that this combination, what Dave did, it’s outstanding. I mean, people are sitting there going, ‘Why so much running?’” Hinshaw said. “Because the three and a half miles, let’s just say it is, that is a different stimulus. The speed endurance, or let’s call it strength endurance/odd object, different stimulus. The mile, different.”
They’re all different, Hinshaw concluded, but if an athlete is truly aerobically balanced, they should be able to earn the most points out of all three.
“And that, to me, is awesome,” Hinshaw said with a grin.
Previewing the “Friday Night Lights” Event
We honed in on the “Friday Night Lights” (FNL) event — “Individual Event 6: Track and Field, presented by Rogue Fitness” — under the lights at Farrington Field.
We wondered if we could use data from the 2021 CrossFit Games to make some predictions and, ultimately, some conclusions about elite athletes’ training and performance. And what we learned was so much more.

“You don’t often land events of this size and magnitude that have such an international footprint in very many communities,” Aucoin told the Morning Chalk Up in an interview. “So, for us, it’s a great way to feature Fort Worth and show what we’re all about it. We’re super excited about it!”
Here is our complete spectator’s guide, packed full of useful info.
