It’s finally here! In just a few short hours, the 20th annual CrossFit Games will kick off in San Jose, CA. Over the next five days (Thursday is a rest day for the individuals), there will be 20 individual events and 12 team events to crown the fittest athletes on earth.
The individuals will tackle seven events on the day, with 550 points up for grabs in each division, while the teams will have to wait until tomorrow to take on their first two events.
All known event details and a full schedule are below.
One big number:
20 — It began in 2007, as much a backyard BBQ as an elite competition, and has since risen to global fitness dominance, now sitting comfortably among the major watershed moments in the history of fitness training. The CrossFit Games celebrates its 20th anniversary this week.
Blast from the past:
In 2013, Greg Glassman wrote the following lines in the CrossFit Games program: “This is not just the first major sport spawned from a peanut roaster, but a moment in physical culture, a rather audacious crowning by CrossFit Inc. of the Fittest Man and Woman on Earth from, of all things, a list of friends competing over a weekend.”
The 2007 version of “The Hopper” workout will kick off the twentieth iteration of the Games this morning, and that rusty old peanut roaster returns Friday for another demonstration of a key element of the CrossFit methodology—the unknown and unknowable.

Spectating in San Jose? 10 Things You Don’t Want to Miss
Watching the fittest athletes in the world throw down at the 20th CrossFit Games gives diehard CrossFit enthusiasts enough incentive to travel to San Jose, CA, this weekend. But it doesn’t stop there for fans.
From Scott Panchik-led workouts to the chance to squat with Mat Fraser, to exclusive product launches and giveaways, here are nine things to enhance your spectator experience at the CrossFit Games.
INOV8
One of the first shoe brands to enter the CrossFit space in 2009, INOV8 said they just had to be part of the 20th CrossFit Games, so they’re showing up in a big way.
On Saturday morning at 7:30 a.m., they will set up a NaturalFit Service Center and host a workout — in partnership with the apparel company LSKD — at The Playground, a gym within walking distance of the SAP Center.
Attendees will receive free LSKD shorts and drinks. Also, INOV8 is keeping some things a secret, but trust us when we say: Don’t sleep in on Saturday morning. Attending this event will be much better than an extra hour of sleep. (Register here).
